Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is my child's leauge age?
Your child's leauge age is what age they will be on August 31, 2026   Example 1-  Child is  currently age 4 on 12/1/25 but they turn 5 on 8/1/26 then their leauge age is 5 in this example Example 2-  Child is currently age 8 on 12/1/25 they don't turn 9 until 9/7/26 so their age is 8 because on 8/31/26 they will still be 8 years old!

My child is leauge age 7 and wants to play at HNLL but we don't live in HNLL boundaries?

Players ages 4-7 may play at any leauge they would like to along with any siblings they have that are older than age 7-  please make sure that they are truly leauge age 7!  (see above question)

My child would like to play at HNLL but we don't live in your boundaries, they are age 8 or older?
If your child attends school in our boundaries- Lincolnshire, Rockland Woods, Hickory, ER Hicks, Emma K Doub you may use a school enrollment form, if they have a sibling age 7 or younger also playing they can play, or the last option is to request a residency waiver.

Waiver may be requested by completing the following form-  Waiver Request   please read information carefully on form!

Is there any financial assistance available?
Halfway National will never turn a child away due to inability to pay we are happy to work with any family who needs assistance so their child can play.  For more information please click this link:  https://forms.gle/JHzLxYcGJ7TqWUys7

We ask that efforts are made to apply for the T-Mobile grant https://www.littleleague.org/call-up-grant-program/

Can I request a team for my child?
While you can express preferences on the registration form, please understand that we cannot accommodate every request.

Siblings: Requests for siblings to play together will always be honored, provided they are age-eligible for the same division.
Exception: In the Majors division, where players are drafted, managers are strongly encouraged to draft siblings to simplify family logistics.
Transportation Needs: Requests to place players with specific individuals (family or neighbors) to assist with transportation will be accommodated. We ask that this be a genuine need and not used merely to place a player with a best friend.
Manager/Coach Requests: Requests to be with a specific manager from a previous season cannot be guaranteed. The best way to ensure this is to offer to coach with that manager and speak with them before teams are selected.

Guaranteed Placement:
A manager's or coach's player will always be assigned to their team.
A sponsor who sponsors a team in their child's division will have their child placed on that team. Exception: This does not apply to the Major Division, as players are drafted to established teams.

What are the minimum parent volunteer requirements?
The organization relies on parent participation to thrive. The minimum requirements per player are:

Concession Stand: Two shifts per player during the season.
Field Work Duty: One shift per player, either pre-season or during the season.
Minor and Major Divisions Only: Parents must assist with the press box (announcing and scoreboard) 3-4 times during their player's games throughout the season.
Fundraiser: Participation in the mid-season fundraiser and assistance with the team's goal of selling raffle tickets.

Does my player who is leauge age 9, 10, 11 or 12 need to attend tryouts?
Yes all players ages 9, 10, 11 and 12 are Draft eligible and they need to attend tryouts for the opportunity to be drafted to a major division team.  If they do not want to be drafted that is okay but they should still plan to attend because the AAA minor team managers will also be selecting their teams based on the evaluations of players during this time.  ALL players not drafted will be selected to a AAA minor team.

Does my player need to attend all 3 tryout days?
We encourage attendance at all 3 tryout days but it is not required.  They must attend 1 day if they are draft eligible (see above question)

Is my 7 or 8 year old player required to attend the skills evaluation?
The skills evaluation is not mandatory, however it is strongly encouraged as this is when managers and coaches have the opportunity to see all the players and it helps ensure that teams are more balanced leading to a more productive and enjoyable season for all.

Can my 6 year old play up in AA minor?
Yes 6 year old's can play up in AA minor but they must attend the skills evaluation and the managers will vote on the readiness of the player to advance to the division based on a variety of factors including social maturity.

When will I know what team my player is on?
Major, AA and AAA Minor Division players will be notified from their team manager within 2 days of the last tryout or skills evaluation of their team. They will likely start practice soon after!

Rookie and T-ball teams will be posted on our website no later than noon the day of our parent/ player meeting.  Players will meet their team at the meeting for the first time.

What equipment does my child need?
Please see information at the bottom of parents page

When will my child get their uniform?
Players will receive uniform as soon as the orders are in from our local supplier, which will be at least 1 week prior to opening day.  Please do not allow your player to wear uniform items prior to pictures.  Please see information in parent letter regarding uniform pants!

Will spirit wear or team wear be available to order?  Yes we will have online order available it will likely due mid March to allow for pick up on picture day.  Watch Social Media for more information!

Equipment

What do I need for my child for the season?

Uniforms

FALL BALL -  SHIRTS WILL BE PROVIDED -  Players can wear athletic pants or baseball pants- they should not wear shorts.

The league will supply each child with a jersey and hat. Pants are not provided and must be purchased. Team colors will not be known until the teams have been formed.   If you are going to choose knicker style pants please ensure socks match.

Bats
It is recommended that each child has their own bat, but is not required. The league will have extras on hand during a practice or game and teammates usually share with each other. Only USA and BBCOR bats (first allowed in Intermediate 50/70) are allowed in addition to all wood bats.  more information  https://www.littleleague.org/playing-rules/bat-rules/

It is not a good idea to buy a bat with the thought that they will "grow into it". Your kid will learn bad habits trying to swing a bat that is too heavy. When in doubt, go with the lighter bat since it is easier to control.. When a heavier bat is used, the player will compensate in order to swing the bat, leading to bad swing mechanics which can be hard for a young player to break. Bad swing mechanics mean fewer balls in play and increased frustration and loss of confidence.

More information about how to select the best bat for your player:

Helmets
All players are should have their own helmet but the league does have extras on hand as needed.

Gloves
All players are required to have their own glove and should be a quality leather glove. The cheap vinyl gloves are difficult for the kids to open and close leading to the ball bouncing out of their gloves, making it more difficult to play catch and field fly balls. The glove should be an appropriate size as well.

here is some additional information to help:

Shoes
It is recommended kids wear cleats (NO metal cleats). T-Ball  players may wear sneakers.

Protective cup
Little League mandates the wearing of a protective cup (metal, fiber, or plastic type) for all males who are catching.
